Costume contest

Participants are encouraged to wear their most creative, scary or funny Halloween costumes for a chance to WIN great prizes! To enter, register for any distance. One winner will be selected for each category:

  • Best kids’ costume (13 and under) – one $25 gift card prize
  • Scariest costume – one $25 gift card prize
  • Funniest costume – one $25 gift card prize
  • Best group costume (2 or more) – one $75 gift card prize

UPDATE: Costume contest winners will be announced at 11:00 a.m. Winners will be contacted at the phone number and/or email provided on their registration form. Be there at 9:30 to be judged for the contest!

2 KM walk, run or roll

This is a great distance to see Waterford’s scenic ponds and trail network. You’ll cross the Sunrise Bridge and Sunset Bridge and pass under the historic Black Bridge. We will have volunteers along the way to cheer you on and guide you to the finish line. If you’re a runner, this is a great distance to work on your speed!

The 2km walk or roll is open to all walkers, runners and rollers (wheelchairs, running strollers, etc., no bikes please). All registered finishers will be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift card prize (random draw).

  • Starts at 9:30 a.m.
  • Starts and finishes on the Waterford Heritage Trail at The Green House (previously the quilt shop)
  • Registration is required to be entered for the $25 prize draw
  • Not timed, enjoy at your own pace!
  • Open to all ages, children under 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult

6 KM walk, run or roll

This route takes you through the north end of Waterford’s beautiful trail network. You’ll cross the Sunrise Bridge and Sunset Bridge, run through forests and beside ponds, and pass under the historic Black Bridge, one of Norfolk’s amazing places! If you’re a runner, this is a great distance that’s just a bit further than a usual 5km!

6km route – view a large 6 km route map

The 6km event is open to all walkers, runners and rollers (wheelchairs, running strollers, etc., no bikes please). All registered finishers will be entered for a chance to win a $50 gift card prize (random draw). A water station will be available at 5 km. We will have volunteers along the way to cheer you on and guide you to the finish line.

  • Starts at 9:30 a.m.
  • Starts and finishes on the Waterford Heritage Trail at The Green House (previously the quilt shop)
  • Route is on paved and gravel trails, with a short section on grass
  • Update: due to a portion of the trail being closed for the silo demolition, participants will take an alternate route for the last few kilometres
  • Registration is required to be entered for the $50 prize draw
  • Open to all ages, children under 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult
  • Event will be timed: first, second and third-place finishers will be recognized with a special prize!

13 KM run or roll – NEW for 2023!

The NEW 13km event is open to runners and rollers (wheelchairs, running strollers, etc., no bikes please). This route takes you further north on Waterford’s beautiful trail network. You’ll cross the Sunrise Bridge and Sunset Bridge, run through forests and fields, beside ponds and farms. And, you’ll pass under the historic Black Bridge, one of Norfolk’s amazing places as you approach the finish line. If you’re a runner, this is a distance you’ll want to try!

We will have volunteers along the way to cheer you on and guide you to the finish line.

All registered finishers will be entered for a chance to win a $100 gift card prize (random draw). A water station will be available at 5km and 10km.

  • Free!
  • Starts at 9:00 a.m.
  • Update: this is an out-and-back route, you’ll turn around just north of Concession 5; due to a portion of the trail being closed for the silo demolition, participants will take an alternate route for the last few kilometres
  • Most of the route is on the paved trail; a short section is on grass and crushed stone
  • Finishes at Shadow Lake Park, around the parking area in front of Wishbone
  • Registration is required to be entered for the $100 prize draw
  • Open to all ages, children under 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult
  • Event will be timed: first, second and third-place finishers will be recognized with a special prize!
  • Walkers are welcome to register, however, the event will wrap up at 11 a.m. and finishers after that time will not be entered for the prize.

Water and refreshments

Registered participants will have access to water (5km, 10km, and at the finish line) and are invited to enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee at the finish line. Halloween grab bags will be handed out to children 13 and under.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I bring my dog on the trail with me during the event?

A. While we love dogs, this event is intended for humans only. Dogs are welcome at the start/finish line, and we encourage everyone to use the trails before or after the event.

Q. Can I ride my bike?

A. We ask that participants do not ride bikes for this event to ensure we have enough space for everyone on the trail.

Q. Do I need to register or can I just show up?

A. We ask all who would like to participate to register to help us understand the numbers to expect. We will not turn away anyone who wants to participate and will allow day-of registration.

Q. How will my time be tracked?

A. We will have numbered bibs for registered participants in the 6km and 13 km events. Volunteers will be recording finish times for first, second and third-place participants for each distance.

This is not a chipped event and we will be relying on the honour system to ensure participants follow the defined course.

Q. When will prizes be handed out?

A. Update: Costume contest winners will be announced at 11:00 a.m. Winners will be contacted at the phone number and/or email provided on their registration form. Be there at 9:30 to be judged for the contest.

Random draw prizes for the 2 km, 6km and 13km participants who finish will be announced at 11 a.m. Winners will be contacted at the phone number and/or email provided on their registration form.

Prizes for the first, second and third fastest finish times for the 6 km and 13 km events will be handed out at the finish line.

Q. What if I take longer than the allotted time?

A. That’s OK, you are welcome to take as long as you would like, however, after 11 a.m. volunteers will no longer be monitoring the finish line.

Q. Who will be judging the costume contest?

A. We will have a panel of judges made up of Pumpkinfest and community volunteers.

Q. Could the routes change?

A. If there are changes to the routes or any other details for the event, we will share them on this web page and will email all participants.
